It’s December, and with December comes all of our favorite things. Snow, wood burning fireplaces, hot cocoa and fuzzy warm socks. There is one day in particular in December that speaks true to The Corner Office; December 5th, National Comfort Food Day. At TCO we are about global cuisine, with an emphasis on comfort food.
The definition of Comfort Food as stated by Urban Dictionary is; “Defined as food that gives emotional comfort to the one eating it, these tend to be favorite foods of childhood, or linked to a person, place or time with which the food has a positive association. Grandma always made the best mashed potatoes and gravy, they’ve become a comfort food for me.”
Here at TCO, our menu consists of staples from all over the world that all can enjoy. As I write this, it is currently snowing outside and all I can think about is our Bacon + Egg Ramen. We’re pretty sure that soup is a comfort food for everyone around the world. But, this Ramen is by far one of the best I have ever had. It’s complete with a 62 degree egg and tender belly bacon. Our secret is to add Siracha to the broth to make it perfectly spicy to your taste.
Our next favorite is the Tikka Masala! The origin of this dish is much disputed. Most say that it originated in an Indian restaurant in Glasgow, Scotland. It is most likely from the British Bangladeshi community which ran most Indian restaurants in the United Kingdom. Needless to say, we think our TCO version is perfect. It has just a kick of spice and will fill you up as any “Comfort Food” should.
Poutine. Ahh poutine. We feel like poutine isn’t as well-known as it should be and we are currently trying to change that. The most popular story of how poutine was created comes from the late 1950’s in Warwick, Quebec at a restaurant called “Le Lutin qui rit”. A customer asked to have cheese curds added to their fries when owner, Fernand Lachance, responded “Ca va faire une Maudite poutine” or “That’s going to make a dreadful mess.” Yes, yes it is Fernand.. a delicious mess indeed. We find our Duck Poutine comforting because 1) Fries. 2) Gravy 3) Cheese. Need we say more?
Our point to this is that come December 5th, or any day for that matter… we hope you come see us at TCO and enjoy our fare and libations whether in need of comfort or not.
